Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Westminster Man on Trafficking in Methamphetamine Charge

(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------A Westminster man was arrested overnight on a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine after a pursuit.


36 year old William Lamar Crawford of W. Freeman Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 5:08am this morning. At this time, Crawford remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.


A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division, on routine patrol near Townville, attempted to pull over a GMC Suburban on Highway 24 for a traffic violation. However, the vehicle did not pull over and began to increase its speed. The deputy informed dispatch that he was in a pursuit.


The pursuit made its way into Oakway area and eventually into the South Union area of the County. As the pursuit continued, heading north towards the city of Westminster, the driver ran over stop sticks that were placed by a deputy on Weldon Road at Toccoa Highway. The pursuit came to an end on Davis Bridge Road near Pickens Road just outside of Westminster.


After the pursuit ended, the driver of the Suburban, identified as Crawford, exited the vehicle and began reaching underneath his vehicle. Crawford was placed into custody by deputies.


Paramedics were called to the scene to evaluate Crawford but he declined treatment and transport, according to deputies. A search of the vehicle produced a quantity of Methamphetamine underneath Crawford’s vehicle, weighing approximately 15.2 grams. The Suburban was towed away from the scene.


Crawford was also issued citations on charges of Disregarding a Stop Sign, an Open Container in a Vehicle, Driving without a License, Failure to stop for a Blue Light, Reckless Driving and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.
