Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Detains 17 Year Old on Attempted Murder Charge



(Walhalla, SC)--------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office detained a 17 year old earlier this morning on a charge of Attempted Murder.


The 17 year old has also been charged with one count each of Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime and Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol. The teenager was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 1:30am this morning and is currently detained pending a bond hearing. The teenager was arrested yesterday, during a warrants service, at an address on Roame Road near Westminster.


A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division was notified of a possible shooting incident back on Sunday of this week. The deputy was notified that the victim was located in a hospital in the state of Georgia. The deputy began the process of gathering evidence in the case. The deputy learned that the victim was shot at an address on Little Choestoea Road near Westminster earlier Sunday.


The investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division. Based upon the evidence that was collected, Investigators obtained the arrest warrants against the teenager. According to the arrest warrants, the victim was shot in the back with a handgun as the victim was fleeing.

According to Investigators, a juvenile who is charged with a Class A, B or C felony can be tried as an adult.


The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. Due to suspect being a juvenile, the Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could, directly or indirectly, identify the suspect in this case.


Also, due to health privacy and safety concerns, the Sheriff’s Office will not release the name of the victim in this case.
