(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office held a promotions ceremony on January 16th, 2024 to honor and recognize promotions in the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Special Operations and the Uniform Patrol Bureau. During the ceremony, a Dispatcher was awarded a Life Saving Award, an Investigator Sergeant and a Uniform Patrol Bureau Corporal were recognized for their work in a recent homicide investigation and a Deputy from the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) team was recognized for most tickets sold in a recent raffle to benefit Corporal Lucas Watts and his family.
The following Deputy was recognized for Promotion to the Criminal Investigations Bureau:
Master Patrol Deputy Tina Sutherland – Promoted to Investigator Sergeant – Financial Crimes Unit
The following Special Operations Deputy was recognized for promotion:
Sergeant Justin Murphy – Promoted to Lieutenant – L.E.A.D.S. Unit and Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) Team
The following Uniform Patrol Bureau Deputies was recognized for promotion:
Deputy Brandon Cobb – Promoted from Master Patrol Deputy on Charlie Shift
Deputy Brad Plant – Promoted to Master Patrol Deputy on Delta Shift
Deputy Shawn Chastain – Promoted to Corporal – Delta Shift
Corporal David Carr – Promoted to First Sergeant – Delta Shift
The following employee was recognized for Life Saving Award:

The following Deputies were recognized for Certificates of Commendation and a Cup of Valor Award:
Investigator Sergeant Jamie Hellams of the Criminal Investigations Bureau and Corporal Chris Johnson from the Uniform Patrol Bureau were recognized for their work in a homicide investigation that led to the arrest of Dustin Wayne Wesley Turpin on a charge of Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Also recognized was Corporal Billy Lee from the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) team for selling the most tickets in the recent golf cart raffle in a fundraiser to benefit Corporal Lucas Watts. Corporal Lee received $100 from the Oconee County (SC) Sheriff’s Office Foundation and a Cup of Valor trophy.
