(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help today in an investigation into a shoplifting that occurred at a Seneca area business last week.  The Sheriff’s Office is also seeking help in identifying a person of interest in relation to the shoplifting.

A Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau was dispatched to the Belk’s in the Applewood Shopping Center last Wednesday evening, November 6th, in regards to a reported shoplifting.  Upon arrival, a Deputy met with an employee who stated that a white male had been walking around the store pushing a poke-a-dot suitcase that employees later discovered was filled with merchandise.

The male attempted to walk out of the store at different locations and eventually ran towards the back entrance of the store where employees lost sight of him.  An employee observed damage to a door at the rear entrance.

After arriving at the store, the Deputy was unable to locate the man.  Further investigation revealed that the man ran through the employee break room and left the store through a door inside of the unloading dock.

All of the merchandise the man attempted to steal was recovered.  The merchandise included clothing and cosmetics and had a retail value of approximately $1,566.36, including tax.  The man also caused approximately $7,500 worth of damage to a door of the business due to the glass being shattered as well as causing damage to the fire alarm system.
